Andrew Pearce Wooden Boards & Bowls

Andrew Pearce Bowls stems from a rich lineage of artisans who have channeled their passion for creativity and design through clay, glass, and wood for generations. The Pearce family name has become synonymous with artistry, with Philip excelling in pottery, Simon mastering glassblowing, and Andrew bringing his vision to life through woodworking.

Make it stand out

The Pearce family’s legacy of craftsmanship began with Philip Pearce, Andrew’s grandfather, who moved his family to Ireland in the 1950s to pursue his passion for pottery. Driven by a vision to create functional, everyday pieces, Philip founded Shanagarry Pottery, handcrafting each item from locally sourced clay. His sons, Simon and Stephen, joined him in the trade, digging clay and learning the art of shaping it into beautiful, practical designs. This marked the beginning of a cherished family tradition—creating handcrafted housewares with timeless style and a deep commitment to design and functionality.

Make it stand out

While Stephen Pearce stayed in Ireland to carry on the family’s pottery tradition, Simon Pearce, Andrew’s father, was captivated by the artistry of European glassmakers. Inspired by his father’s vision, Simon set out to craft glassware designed for everyday use. In the 1980s, Simon and his wife, Pia, relocated to the United States to expand their glassblowing business. They discovered an iconic mill building in Quechee, Vermont, where they established Simon Pearce Glass, a brand synonymous with timeless craftsmanship and elegance.

Andrew Pearce grew up at the mill, immersed in a world of innovative design, creative thinking, and the transformation of raw materials into products that bring people together. Encouraged by his parents to follow his passions, Andrew spent ten years working alongside his father before choosing a new path. “I wanted to do my own thing,” he reflected. “I needed to make something with my hands, and I enjoyed building machines. I wanted to try something new, and I knew I wanted to stay in Vermont.”

Eager to explore his own craft, Andrew worked closely with skilled New England woodworkers, honing his skills and discovering a deep passion for creating wooden bowls. With his newfound mastery of woodturning, Andrew Pearce Bowls was born, blending tradition, craftsmanship, and his own vision.

Andrew began his journey by focusing on bowls, driven by a passion for showcasing the natural beauty of wood grain in every piece. He crafted each bowl with a commitment to stability, sustainability, and longevity. Over time, his collection expanded to include cutting boards and other home décor items, evolving into the innovative wooden designs admired today.

From the start, Andrew designed, built, or customized most of the equipment and machinery in his woodworking shop. His dedication to sustainability has been at the heart of his business, ensuring that his craft respects the environment while celebrating the timeless artistry of woodworking.
